June 26, 2024: California Alliance for Retired Americans v. Weber – California Alliance for Retired Americans filed suit against California Secretary of State Shirley Weber challenging California’s signature matching process. Plaintiff alleges the matching process is “inconsistent and unreliable” and violates the state’s constitution. On July 15, plaintiff filed a motion for preliminary injunction. The Republican National Committee filed a motion to intervene.

Fair Political Practices Commission News. Federal Election Commission News – The U.S. Court of Appeals has issued an en banc opinion and judgment in National Republican Senatorial Committee, et al. v. FEC, et al. The opinion affirms that the limits on coordinated campaign expenditures of the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971, as amended, do not violate the First Amendment. The plaintiffs had argued that limiting the expenditures a political party may make in coordination with its nominees unconstitutionally abridges the party’s First Amendment rights.
